Biography
Yaakov Nehushtan was born on April 22, 1925 in the city of Kazanlak ( Bulgaria ), under the name of Jaco Celebi . In his youth, he was a member of the Ha-Shomer Ha-Zair Zionist movement. In 1944, at the age of 19, he repatriated to Palestine and joined the Jewish underground organization “ Etzel ”. Participated in the armed activities of the organization. In May 1945, he was arrested as part of Operation Season and subsequently banished to British camps of prisoners in Eritrea , and from 1947 in Kenya .
He graduated from the law faculty of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem . He worked as a lawyer. After the formation of the Herut movement, in 1948, he joined it.
In 1969, he was elected to the Knesset of the 7th convocation from the Gakhal bloc, worked in the legislative commission , the foreign affairs and security commission, the labor commission, the Knesset commission and the economics commission .
After the Likud came to power in Israel, Nehushtan took up diplomatic activity. So in 1979, he became an employee of the Israeli embassy in Washington , and then in 1982 he was appointed ambassador to the Netherlands .
Family
His wife is Nehushtan Dvor (née Calpus ), born in Tel Aviv , in the family of Moshe Yosef Kalfus , a follower of the Zeev Zhabotinsky [1] . In 1939, she joined the Ezel ranks and participated in the armed activities of the organization, including direct participation in the explosion of the oil pipeline near Haifa in May 1945 , the explosion of British military aircraft at the Hazor Air Force base ( Hebrew ור ) in February 1946 and pr. She was arrested after participating in the Ötsel action on the explosion of a British railway in April 1946 and sentenced by a military court to 15 years in prison. Fled from arrest in early 1948 . She died in 2005. [2]
The couple had two sons, one of them, Yuri ( Heb. יורי ), became a lawyer. The second son, Ido , made a military career, was the Commander of the Israeli Air Force .
