Ernst Arkadievich Levkov ( Belorussian. Ernst Arkadzevich Lyakko ; 1935 - 1996 ) - Belarusian Soviet scientist, geologist , historian, ethnographer, local historian, popularizer of science. Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1981), professor (1984), corresponding member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts (1994), International Academy of Sciences of Eurasia (1994), laureate of the State Prize of the BSSR (1986).

Biography
Born on January 30, 1935 in Minsk . After graduating from the Geological and Geographical Faculty of BSU in 1958, he was sent to the Belarusian Scientific Research Geological Exploration Institute, where he worked until 1977, from 1977 to 1996 - at the Institute of Geochemistry and Geophysics, Academy of Sciences of the BSSR . In 1985-1992 - Head of the Laboratory of the Academy of Sciences.
At the same time he lectured at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Gorky (now the Belarusian State Pedagogical University ), the Belarusian and Gomel State Universities .
In 1965 he defended his thesis on "The study of the material composition of sand-gravel and pebble deposits of northern Belarus in connection with their use in the national economy." In 1977, he acted as editor of the collection of articles "On the boundary between Neogene and anthropogen ."
He received a doctorate in geological and mineralogical sciences in 1981, and a dissertation on the subject of “Glaciotectonics” was defended at the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Polytechnic Institute .
In 1986, the book “Climate as a Product of the Biosphere” was published, edited by E. A. Levkov.
Conducted field research annually.
He died on September 13, 1996 and was buried in the Minsk city cemetery. The grave of the scientist is made in the form of a pagan burial. The monument is made of a massive granite boulder with one polished surface, where a galdrastav with solar symbols, a world tree, and a fire cross was made technologically, the inscription “Many boulders have a name ...” is signed by Ernst Levkov.
Scientific activity
He is known for developing the theory of glaciotectonics , the study of regional geology, topography and minerals (mineral building materials) of Belarus.
E. Levkov is a researcher of glacial boulders and issues related to the penetration of glaciers into Belarus.
Researcher of Belarusian traditional culture. Particular attention was paid to the study of cult stones . He defined the role of toponymy in the reconstruction of the historical past. During field expeditions, Levkov collected rich materials on geology, history, pre-Christian culture of Belarus and ethnography of the region. Studying paganism, he not only explored history, but also found ways to understand the traditional culture of his people.
He participated in the work of the Belarusian Committee for the International Program of Geological Correlation, the Belarusian Anthropogenic Commission.
