Biography
Lorkan Wa Tuateyl was born in 1128 in the city of Castledermat in an Irish aristocratic family, who was in kinship with the Irish king. Lorkan's father, Wa Tuateyl, was a vassal of the Irish King Leinster . Lorcan Ua Tuateyl spent his childhood in a monastery in Glendaloh . In 1151 , at the age of 25, he became a monk of this monastery. In 1154, he became abbot of this monastery, acting as rector for the next 22 years.
In 1162, he was elected Archbishop of Dublin . Lorcan Wa Tuateyl was the first Irishman in the department of Dublin. Spread the veneration of St. Kevin . After his election, he often visited the monastery in Glendaloh to live a few days in the cell of St. Kevin. He took an active part in the reform of the 12th century Irish church, and restored the Cathedral of Christ in Dublin.
After the capture of Dublin in 1171 by the Anglo-Normans and the direct intervention of the English king Henry II , Pope Adrian IV issued the bull Laudabiliter , which recognized the sovereignty of Henry II over Ireland. For the sake of loyalty to the Pope, Lorcan Wa Tuateil was forced to recognize the legitimacy of the invaders.
In 1173, along with other Irish bishops, he participated in the Third Lateran Cathedral .
In 1175, Lorcan Ua Tuateyl participated in the negotiations that led to the Windsor Peace. In 1179, he was appointed pope legate in Ireland. As a papal envoy, he was able to reconcile the English king Henry II and the last Irish king, Ruidrim II (King Connacht from 1166–1186). Being the envoy of the pope several times met with Henry II. In 1180 he was expelled by Henry II from England to Normandy. Having found refuge in the monastery of the city of E, he soon died on November 14, 1180 .

On December 11, 1225, Pope Honorius III ranked Lorcan Wa Tuateila as a saint.
In 1442, part of the relics of St. Lorkan Wa Tuateyl was brought to England and stored in the church of his name in the city of Chorley. During the reign of Henry VIII, these relics disappeared.
The heart of St. Lorcan Wa Tuateila is located in Dublin in the Cathedral of Christ. On March 2, 2012, these relics were stolen [1] , however, in April 2018, they were found intact in Phoenix Park after the Garda Sheehan received an anonymous hint of the location of the heart. According to media reports, the thieves returned him because they believed that it was cursed and caused the death of close abductors from a heart attack [2] . On the evening of April 26, Assistant Commissioner Pat Leahy officially handed over the reliquary to the Anglican Archbishop of Dublin, . On November 14, the returned relic was exhibited in the cathedral [3] .
