About the album
Unlike the debut album Sweet Kisses , which included mostly ballads, Irresistible includes hip-hop and R&B genres. Simpson herself describes the material as " Mariah Carey Meets Britney Spears ", which indicates the sincerity of the songs, as well as their more modern sound. Lyrical themes covered in the album include love and grief, sexuality and self-esteem.
Sweet Kisses , which was targeted at an older audience, was not very commercially successful, so Simpson rethought the concept of his career. At the suggestion of label leaders, Simpson changed her image and songs in Irresistible , deciding to delve into teenage pop and R&B genres. After the release, the album received mostly negative reviews from critics, most of whom were disappointed with the music. Initially, the disc was a commercial success, debuting at number six on the Billboard 200 . It was a progress compared to her previous activities. The album sold over 850,000 copies in the United States. It has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for over 500,000 copies. On the other hand, the album was not so successful, reaching 13th place on the Canadian chart and 40th in Sweden, Japan and Germany.
Singles
Two singles were released from the album . “ Irresistible ” was commercially successful, it entered the top twenty charts of eleven countries, including 11th place in the UK chart, 15th in the United States in the Billboard Hot 100 . It was followed by “ A Little Bit ”, which did not hit the US charts, but reached its peak position in 62nd place in Australia. In 2001, she went on her first tour called DreamChaser Tour in support of the album.
