Description

Little curlew baby reaches a length of 28 to 34 cm, wingspan is from 57 to 63 cm, weight - from 150 to 175 g.

The plumage is predominantly brown in color, including the underside of the wings. The belly is white, the beak is short, curved. The drawing of the head of a curlew-baby is similar to the same middle curlew ( Numenius phaeopus ), with light and dark stripes on the crown of the head and eyebrows. The call consists of constantly repeating whistles.

Distribution

Curlew baby is a migratory bird. His wintering spots are located on the Malay Archipelago. However, it was occasionally observed in Western Europe.

Lifestyle

This is a sociable bird, forming large flocks. She feeds on invertebrates, which she hunts in soft mud.

Reproduction

This bird nests in free colonies in forest glades and in river valleys in northern Siberia. A nest is a hole on the ground in which up to 4 eggs are laid. Birds hibernate within the continent in meadows, arable lands or near water bodies, primarily in Northern Australia, as well as in South Australia.
