Ivan Stepanovich Martynov ( January 20, 1925 - October 17, 1943 ) - participant of the Great Patriotic War , shooter of the 6th Rifle Company of the 212th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 75th Guards Rifle Division of the 30th Rifle Corps of the 60th Army of the Central Front , Red Army Guard , Hero of the Soviet Union (1943) [1] .

Biography
Born on January 20, 1925 in the village of Nekrasovka, now Kupinsky district, Novosibirsk region . In 1940 he graduated from the Nekrasov seven-year school with a certificate of merit. After leaving school he worked in the field crew as an accountant [2] .
He was drafted into the Red Army in February 1943, studied at the Kemerovo Military Infantry School [3] (according to other sources, in the regimental school in Kemerovo [2] ). Due to the difficult situation at the front in August 1943, cadets were sent to the army without assignment of rank. On September 4, 1943, the Red Army soldier Martynov became a shooter of the 6th Rifle Company of the 212th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 75th Guards Rifle Division .
He was especially distinguished during the crossing of the Dnieper River north of Kiev, in the battles during the capture and retention of the bridgehead in the vicinity of the villages of Glebovka and Yasnogorodka ( Vyshgorod district of Kiev region ) on the right bank of the Dnieper in the autumn of 1943. In the award list, the commander of the 212nd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 75th Guards Rifle Division of the Guard, Colonel M. Borisov wrote [4] :
Guards Private Martynov On September 23, 1943, as part of a platoon of the Guard of the Second Lieutenant Yarzhin, the first forced the Dnieper River and the first burst onto the steamboat Nikolaev, where together with the platoon they captured the steamboat Nikolaev, a barge with military engineering equipment, an machine gun, and a mortar and two people from the ship's crew captured.
Participating in the battle for the village of Yasnogorodka, the guards Private Martynov showed a model of courage, heroism and courage, exterminated up to 25 German soldiers and officers.
For the bold action when crossing the Dnieper River and the courage in taking the enemy’s steamer and the steamer’s command, he deserves to be awarded the title “Hero of the Soviet Union”.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, for successfully crossing the Dnieper River north of Kiev, firmly securing the bridgehead on the western bank of the Dnieper River and showing courage and heroism of the guard, Red Army soldier Ivan Ivanovich Stepanov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union [5] .
Martynov did not have time to learn about the assignment of the title of Hero. October 17, 1943 he died in the battle for the liberation of the right-bank Ukraine, probably in the Vyshgorod district of Kiev region . The burial place is unknown.
