The Internet in Georgia occupies a leading position among the countries of the Caucasus in terms of traffic speed (51st place in the world). [1] According to Internet World Stats, Internet penetration in Georgia is 28.3%. [2]

Providers
There are two main Internet providers in the country: Silknet and Caucasus Online. Silknet (formerly United Telecom) holds over 40%, and Caucasus Online, which was created after the merger of the three leading Internet providers, controls over 30% of the market. [1] Other companies: Magtikom, Akhali Kselebi (New Networks).
Users
Compared to 2009, in 2011 the number of users who have never used the Internet decreased by 10% (from 66% to 56%). The number of Internet consumers in the capital is 60%: this is twice as much as in the regions. [3] According to a survey conducted in April 2011 by the Center for Research Resources of the Caucasus (CRRC), 83% consider television to be the main source of information and only 5% - the Internet. [4] According to the official data of the Georgian Communications Commission, the number of subscribers as of October 2011 is as follows [5] :
- Retail subscribers of fiber-optic communications - 115,453 people.
- Retail DSL subscribers - 197486 people.
- Retail subscribers CDMA & EVDO - 48055 people.
- In total - 360,994 people.
Technology
According to the National Communications Commission, the main transmission media of the Internet to the consumer are cable, in particular DSL (55.8%) and optical-cellular (28.7%) technologies (2010). Wireless Internet subscribers mainly use EVDO and CDMA technologies . [6]
