Biography
Very little is known about the life of Semyon Sopigi. According to the legendary genealogy of the Sapieha clan (“Historia domus Sapiehianae”), Semyon was the son of Sunigailo , great-great-grandson of Grand Duke Gedimin , who adopted the coat of arms “Fox” in the Union of Towns of 1413 . Nevertheless, back in the 19th century, the genealogy of Stadnitsky established that Sunigailo died childless [1] .
According to modern ideas, Semyon Sopig came from the Polotsk boyars, and his main possessions were in the Smolensk region [2] .
Semyon Sopig was married to Anastasia Polshanka [3] and had four sons, two of whom, Bogdan and Ivashka, went two branches of the Sapeg clan - Chereisko-Ruzhanskaya and Kodanskaya [2] .
