Kadet is the name of the title of pupils of the cadet corps [1] in pre-revolutionary Russia from July 29, 1731 and in some foreign states.
They got their name from the word fr. cadet "the youngest" - from the Gascon. capdèt "commander, chief." Cadets also called young nobles in France and Prussia in military service in the ranks before being promoted to officers, as well as non-commissioned officers from nobles in some European armies.
