Grinderman is a rock band founded in 2006 in London by members of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds . The team positioned itself as a side project of the main group and at first was known as Mini Seeds . The aim of the participants was to take a break from the complex multifaceted sound of The Bad Seeds; they released two albums in the style of garage noise rock ( literally: noisy rock ), simply named Grinderman (2007) and Grinderman 2 (2010). The project was positively received by critics, but did not last long: in 2011, the musicians disbanded Grinderman and concentrated on recording new material for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

2006−2008
After a lengthy tour in support of the double album Bad Seeds Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus , band leader Nick Cave began composing songs on the guitar, an instrument he rarely played. The result was a raw sound that resembled the early post-punk album Bad Seeds From Her to Eternity . [1] Together with guitarist Warren Ellis, bassist Martin Casey and drummer Jim Sklavunos, Cave formed the band Grinderman, who began recording his debut album at Metropolis Studios and RAK Studios in London . During the sessions of the group, the song of the American bluesman Memphis Slim “Grinder Man Blues” was played, which gave the name to the band.
The first single “Get It On” was released on January 8, 2007, and the second single “No Pussy Blues” on February 19. In March, the first long-playing recording of Grinderman was released, which was very positively received by critics for brute energy, similar to the sound of Nick's first band The Birthday Party . [1] The third single from Grinderman's "(I Don't Need You To) Set Me Free" was released on April 30. The group gave a number of performances, including on the nightly musical shows “Later ... with Jools Holland” and “Late Show with David Letterman”. [2] On July 24, 2007, Madison Square Garden hosted a unique joint concert by Grinderman and The White Stripes . [3] In 2008, the band was one of the headliners of the Roskilde festival , which hosted such musicians as Neil Young and Radiohead . The group also recorded two new songs “Dream (Song for Finn)” and “Song for Frank” specifically for the Wim Wenders film “Filming in Palermo”, as well as the joint song “Just Like a King” with the bluesman Seasick Steve for the album of the last I Started Out with Nothin and I Still Got Most of It Left .
2009−2011
Grinderman has been temporarily suspended for the release of the album Bad Seeds Dig, Lazarus, Dig! . After a summer tour in support of the recording, Cave announced the start of work on his second album, Grinderman, which he described as psychedelic stoner rock . [4] The musician also added that he was going to make a really serious album and he was not interested in commercial payback. Grinderman 2 was released in early September 2010. The first single "Heathen Child" was released on the 6th, right after the album. There were several video clips shot by long-time friend of Bad Seeds John Hillcoat .
After a tour involving concerts in the UK , Switzerland , Italy , Slovenia and North America , Nick Cave announced the dissolution of Grinderman. On December 11, 2011, at the Meredith Music Festival in Australia , the group leader turned to his fans: “That's it, Grinderman is gone. I'll see you ten years later, when we get even older and uglier. ” [5] Later, in December 2011, Jim Sklavunos said the following:“ We ended up with what we had to do as Grinderman, and it was time to move on, like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. ” [6]
