Umar Yusipovich Idrisov ( tat. Əmər Yosıf uğlı İdrisov, Gomәr Yosif uly Idrisov ; born January 1, 1954 , Gorky ) is a Russian Muslim religious leader. Biography
Born on January 1, 1954 in the city of Gorky. Ethnic Tatar . After graduating from high school, worked as a taxi driver.
In 1980, he entered the Higher Islamic Madrasah Miri-Arab in Bukhara , where he graduated with honors from a seven-year course of study. In 1987 he graduated from the Tashkent Islamic Institute named after Imam al-Bukhari . In 1988, he actively participated in the restoration of the Cathedral Mosque in Nizhny Novgorod.
Since 1991 - Imam-Khatib of the Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral Mosque . Since 1993 - Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region. Under the leadership of Umar-Khazrat in 1994, the construction of the Makhinur madrasa was completed and the first students were admitted.
In 2001, with financial support from philanthropists, natives of the village of Bolshaya Rybushkino, Abdulhamid and Mansur Sadekov and the Hafiz brothers, he initiated the construction of the Tauba mosque in Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod. Together with Damir Muhetdinov, Idrisov initiated the construction of the Islamic Cultural Center in Nizhny Novgorod near the Cathedral Mosque (2006) and the establishment of the Nizhny Novgorod Islamic Institute. On November 2, 2008, at the IV Congress-kurultay of delegates of the clergy and parishioners of the parishes-mahallas of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region, Idrisov resigned as the chairman of the DUMNO in order to devote all his time to scientific and public activities. At the same time, Idrisov was elected Chairman of the Council of Ulema of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
On December 31, 2008 he was appointed official representative of the Central Spiritual Administration of Muslims in the Fund for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education [1] .
Since 1997 - Professor of the International Slavic Academy of Sciences, Education, Arts and Culture. In May 2003, he was awarded the Order of Glory II degree of the Council of Muftis of Russia. In July 2004 he was awarded the Order of Friendship by decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin .
One of the co-authors of the book “The History of Islamic Communities of the Nizhny Novgorod Region”, the author of dozens of publications in periodicals, articles in collections of materials of international conferences. He is the author of the book “Bukhara Memories. 20 years of serving as imam ” [2] . Repeatedly made reports in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. In mid-September 2013, Umar Idrisov, in an interview with Interfax-Religion , abandoned his pupil and ally Damir Mukhetdinov and announced his intention to regain power in the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Nizhny Novgorod Region [3] . Previously, he was elected chairman of the cathedral mosque of Nizhny Novgorod, which was opposed at the end of September 2013 by a group of more than 50 people headed by G.
