Biography
Nikolay Besedin was born on June 11, 1922 in the village of Gostishchevo [1] in a peasant family. In 1938 he graduated from seven classes of the school, and then the factory apprenticeship school in Kursk , after which he worked as a radio engineer. In February 1943 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army by the Ivnyansky District Military Commissariat of the Kursk Region , from the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In battles he was wounded three times. By September 1943, Red Army soldier Nikolai Besedin was a reconnaissance platoon on foot reconnaissance of the 957th Infantry Regiment of the 309th Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [2] .
On September 23, 1943, Besedin's division was one of the first in the entire front to reach the Dnieper . The regiment received the task to force the river and capture the bridgehead . Besedin received an order, along with a group of fighters, to penetrate the rear of German units and obtain data on his forces, positions, and fire system. On the night of September 23-24, the Besedin group secretly sailed across the Dnieper and discovered and studied enemy fortifications. Having discovered an easel machine gun in a disguised position at the site of the supposed Dnieper regiment crossing, Besedin destroyed it with grenades along with the calculation. Having burst into the village of Balyko-Schuchinka of the Kagarlyksky district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR , fighters opened fire from machine guns , which caused panic in the enemy. Using it, the soldiers captured the prisoner. Upon returning, the group fell into a German ambush at the front line. In the ensuing battle, Besedin destroyed 4 German soldiers, thereby ensuring successful access to Soviet positions. The group provided the regiment command with important information, using which regiment units crossed the Dnieper and successfully captured the bridgehead [2] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 23, 1943 for “courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders”, Red Army soldier Nikolai Besedin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 8736 [ 2] .
After the war ended, Besedin graduated from the Novosibirsk Military Infantry School . In 1946 - 1950 he served in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR , in 1950-1953 - in the Soviet Army. In June 1953, with the rank of lieutenant , he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Belgorod , worked at a local asbestos-cement plant. He died on November 18, 1989, and was buried in the Belgorod cemetery of Yaneshano [2] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals. In 2001, a bust of Besedin was installed in Belgorod Victory Park [2] .
