Tovmas Akopovich Terzyan ( Armenian Թովմաս Հակոբի Թերզյան , 1840 - 1909 [1] ) - Armenian poet , playwright , teacher and public figure [2] .

Born in Constantinople [1] . He received his primary education from the Venetian Mkhitarists [2] . According to the literary style, Terzyan is more romantic, the language of the writer is archaic. Initially, Grabar gave preference, then he also wrote in modern Armenian. Terzian’s work was influenced by such authors as Byron, Lamartine, Hugo and others [2] . The author of mainly plays and poems [1] . The first play is Sandukht, written in 1862 on historical subjects. Other famous plays are Joseph the Beautiful (1872), Hripsime (1868), etc. [1] . He has written numerous translations. The author of the libretto of the first Armenian opera “Arshak II” [1] .
