Biography

Born in a large family. Kerim's father died at the front since 1942. At the age of thirteen, remaining with four younger brothers and sisters, he actually became the head of the family. He worked on a collective farm, was a district librarian, built the Tedzhen reservoir, served in the army.

Creativity

Kerim Kurbannepesov showed his poetic talent at an early age. His first poems appeared first in the district, then in the republican newspapers. The schoolboy was received by the staff correspondents of the district newspaper.

Since 1940, Kurbannepesov’s poems regularly appear on the pages of republican youth newspapers, the satirical journal Tokmak. In 1949, in the Moscow journal Smena , his poem Kolkhozchi gyz (The Girl from the Collective Farm) was published.

In 1951, the first poetry collection of the young author, “The Spring of My Strength,” appeared. Already the first books of K. Kurbannepesov showed that a large, talented, distinctive poet confidently entered the Turkmen literature and firmly took his place.

More than 20 poetry books came out from under the pen of Kerim Kurbannepesov. In them, the author appears as a subtle lyricist and a deep psychologist, a philosopher, organically combining humor and soft irony. The poetic world of the poet is multicolored, this is the inner world of his contemporaries with their daily worries, joys, sorrows, dreams, these are reflections on the meaning of life, on civic ideals, on the art of the artist of the word, on the personality and purpose of the poet.

The classic of Turkmen literature, Berdy Kerbabaev , spoke of the poet in this way:

We have Kerim; you need to know him - this is a great poet; it combines the wisdom that has been preserved for centuries and that which will only come to us in the future. This poet is at the crossroads of all three times.

Kerim Kurbannepesov is a popular songwriter. Many of his poems became Turkmen folk songs. He wrote a number of works for children.

He translated the works of A. S. Pushkin , N. A. Nekrasov , Gianni Rodari , Walt Whitman , R. Tagore , Nazim Hikmet , Alisher Navoi and others from Russian, English, Italian, Bengali, Turkish, Persian into Turkmen . The works of K. Kurbannepesov translated into a number of languages ​​of the peoples of the USSR.

He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Turkmen SSR.

Memory

  • On the “ Walk of Inspiration ” in the center of Ashgabat, a bust of Kerim Kurbannepesov was installed.
