Biography

Michelle Charles Durieu was born on December 7, 1796 in the commune of Saint-Etrop-de-Bourne in the French department of Law and Garonne .

He studied at the military school of Brienne, then moved to Saint-Cyr , where he became a lieutenant. Since 1813 he served in the French army, took part in military campaigns in France and Spain.

In 1823, Durieu took part in the capture of Fort Trocadero , which ended the civil war in Spain .

In 1825, Michelle Charles became interested in algology, began to study coastal algae. Durieu de Maisonneuv took part in the Morea expedition of the French army, where he served until 1848 . In 1835, he traveled to Spain and Portugal, exploring the local flora. In the years 1840-1844, Durieu took part in a scientific expedition to Algeria , where he collected many samples of secretive plants.

From 1858 to 1876, Durieu de Maisonneuve worked as the director of the Botanical Garden of Bordeaux, from 1867 to 1877 he was a professor at the University of Bordeaux . Michelle Charles Durieu died on February 20, 1878 .

Samples of higher plants collected by Durrier are stored in the Paris National Herbarium at the Museum of Natural History (P). Samples of mosses, mushrooms and algae are stored in the Cryptogamic Museum Herbarium (PC).
