The first steps in the drafts of Alexander Kandaurov were taken under the guidance of the Honored Coach of the USSR Nikolai Kurnosov . Subsequently, Kandaurov trained with E. S. Kukleev, Yu. V. Kirillov, A. A. Salnikov, S. N. Gorbachev .
In 1977, in Bendery, Kandaurov won his first medal of the USSR championship in Russian drafts . In the future, he four times became the champion of the USSR in this kind of drafts:

Kandaurov also won another bronze medal of the national championship in 1986 in Tallinn . In 1985, in Galatine (Italy), at the first World Drafts-64 Championship, held according to the rules of Brazilian drafts , Kandaurov, in competition with another Soviet athlete Vladimir Wigman and rivals from the Netherlands and Brazil, confidently won first place, one and a half points ahead Wigman - silver medalist [2] . In 1986, he became a holder of the Order of the Badge of Honor [3] . Later, he shared third place with Yuri Anikeev at the 2002 World Championship in the lightning fast game of Brazilian drafts [4] . Kandaurov’s best achievement in international drafts was the victory of the Polish Open in 1983.
In the future, Alexander Kandaurov played a prominent role in the life near the table. He is the owner of the website “Checkers in Russia”, where critical notes are regularly posted about the organs of the FMJD and the Russian drafts leadership. Kandaurov was a member of the Executive Committee of the Section 64 of the FMJD and was its vice-president, but lost the presidential election [5] . Kandaurov actively supports the development of drafts game programs, in particular, actively participating in the organization of the first Russian championships among drafts programs [6] , and then becoming a participant in the first matches in Russian drafts between such programs ( “Master” and then “Tundra”) and grandmaster -man. Kandaurov defeated the “Master” in January, and the “Tundra” in June 2003 [7] . As vice-president of Section 64 of the FMJD, Kandaurov became the organizer of the I World Championship in Russian Drafts among programs (Moscow, 2008) [8] .
