Born in the village of Kilibiboni, Rift Valley Province . He started his professional sports career in 1988 when he took the 9th place at the World Junior Championships . At the Olympic Games in Barcelona, he won a silver medal at a distance of 5000 meters, losing to the winner, Dieter Baumann, just 0.19 seconds. Took 8th place in the 1993 World Cup in 5000 meters. At the 1996 Olympics, he finished second again, losing only 0.2 seconds to the Burundi rider Venuste Niyongabo .
Two-time silver medalist of the world indoor championships at a distance of 3000 meters in 1997 and 1999. In 2001, he became the winner of the IAAF Grand Prix final in the 3000 meters race, and in 2002 won the silver medal .
The 2002 African champion in 5000 meters running with a score of 13.31.95.

Married to the athlete Pauline Kong .
