Location
The Tsugolskaya depression is located in the lower reaches of Onon , between the Tsugolsky ridge (from the south-east) and its spurs (from the west and north-west). The depression begins in the south-west, 2 km south of the village of Zugol and extends first to the north-north-east, and from the village of Nurinsk to the north-east direction, to the village of Nizhny Sharanai . Here the Tsugolskaya depression connects with the Borzhigantayskaya . The total length of the Tsugolskaya Depression is slightly greater than 20 km, the width ranges from 1 km (in the south-western beginning) to 2.5 km (in the northeast end).
Geology
The Tsugulovskaya depression is composed of lower Cretaceous formations (with the manifestation of zeolites ), which are overlapped by Cenozoic continental sediments of small thickness. The foundation of the depression occurred in the Mesozoic , further formation went into the Neogene - Quaternary . The absolute minimum marks of the bottom of the depression are confined to the Onon channel, the water edge of which is 560–545 m. The prevailing types of landscape are steppes , turning into forest-steppe in places, and river meadows .
