Bishop Seraphim (in the world Sergey Pavlovich Velitsky ; 1872 , Cherepovets - October 1927 , Novgorod ) - bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church , bishop of Krestetsky, vicar of the Novgorod diocese .

Biography
Born in 1872 in Cherepovets in the family of the priest of the Nativity of Christ Church Shekonsky Pavel Sosipatrovich Velitsky. His mother, Anna Petrovna Pushtorskaya, belonged to the noble family of Pushtorskikh. The family had younger children: Maria, Nina and Alexey.
He studied at the Novgorod Theological Seminary , but left the second grade due to illness.
He served in the churches of the military department in Bobruisk , Kazan , Kherson , Elisavetgrad . On December 26, 1895, he was ordained deacon in Kazan. In 1896 he entered a missionary course at the Kazan Theological Academy in the Mongolian department. He graduated from the course in 1898.
He was married, but widowed young.
On March 5, 1900, he was tonsured at the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery and on March 9, 1900 he was consecrated bishop Arseniy Kirillovsky as a hieromonk . Adopted by the bishop of Transbaikal and Nerchinsk Methodius to the number of missionaries of the Transbaikal anti-Buddhist mission.
For his excellent and diligent service, Bishop Methodius was awarded a plait on June 27, 1901, and a pectoral cross issued by the Holy Synod on May 6, 1904.
In June of that year, by decree of the Holy Synod, he was appointed Acting Rector of the Tikhvin Antony-Dymsky Monastery ; Approved on November 9-19, 1905. In 1909 he was elevated to the rank of abbot .
He had thanks from His Eminence, the Novgorod Diocesan guardianship of the poor clergy (November 1904) for the diligent collection of donations in favor of orphans.
In 1911-1915 he was again an employee of Bishop Methodius in the Transbaikal, Tomsk and Orenburg dioceses; in 1914 he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite .
Since February 1915 - Acting Rector of the second-class non-communicative male Vyazhitsky Nicholas Monastery near Novgorod; Approved on September 2-12, 1916. In 1920, the monastery was closed, but worship in the temple continued until the beginning of 1930.
July 3, 1921 in the St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod was ordained bishop of Krestetsky, vicar of the Novgorod diocese .
Dodged a renovationist schism. By the resolution of the Renovationist All-Ukrainian Central Council, he was appointed bishop of Borovichi , vicar of the Novgorod diocese on September 13, 1922 [1]
Towards the end of 1922, he openly declared a break with modernization and took over the administration of the Novgorod diocese with the former title of bishop of Krestetsky. Not earlier than 1924 - Bishop of Malovisher, vicar of the Novgorod diocese.
In 1927 he was arrested, died a few months later, and was buried in the territory of the Vyazhishchi monastery . According to eyewitnesses, from Novgorod to the monastery, the coffin with the body of a bishop was carried on hand [2] .
