Located at the confluence of Vymi in Vychegda in a pine forest. It was mentioned in the census of 1678 as repairs Borovoy , in 1859 - Borovskaya (Bor, Yag). Until 1859, it was called Vogvazdinskaya .

Locals call the village “Yag” ( Komi yag - “Pine Forest”) or “Vokvazdіn” (the committee is brother, Vas - Vasya, Vasily, din - a place adjacent to something; when ozvonchenii soft “s” before the ringing the consonant is Vogvazdin - a place at the brother Vasily).

In the village there is a railway station Ust-Vym .
