In 1862, near the Svaretsky lake there was the village of Svorets Pokrovsky with a manor (Pokrovsky), an Orthodox chapel and 19 courtyards, 82 of them were male and 78 female; and the village of Svorets Talyzin (now Bolshoy Svarets) has 12 yards, 37 of them are male and 36 female [3] .

At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries, many farms were rebuilt on the lands previously owned by landowners from Pokrovskoye Manor; the inhabitants of these farms were mainly Estonians. The farms were called - Svarets Pokrovsky, or in Estonian - Vartsi Puustus [4] .

In February 1931, the territory under the Pokrovsky National Estonian Village Council was allocated from the Svaretsky Village Council with a center in the village of Maly Svarets, however, in fact, this village council was never created and was officially excluded from the lists of village councils in October 1934 [5] .

In 1936 there were villages on the shore of Lake Svaretsky: Maly Svarets (19 houses, the center of the village council), Novogosh (27 houses), a little east of the lake - Big Svarets (34 houses), on the north shore and further from the lake to the north-east Svarets Pokrovsky farms (59 houses) [6] .
