Born in Glasgow [2] in the family of the Spanish diplomat Salvador de Madaryaga and the Scottish historian Constance Archibald; sister - writer Nieves Mathews (Nieves Mathews, mother of the famous Spanish politician Javier Solana ) [3] .
- Honorary Professor ( Professor Emeritus ) of Slavic Studies at the University of London, a specialist in the history of Russia, in particular, during the reign of Catherine II [4] , as well as the history of Russian-British relations [2] .
