Michael Parkes is an American living in Spain, best known for his work in the genre of magical realism and in the style of fantasy [1] . Specializes in painting, lithography and sculpture. Parkes' works are widely available in the form of mass-produced posters [2] and as part of nine published books.

Biography
Parkes studied graphics and painting at the University of Kansas .
His unique style developed in isolation, after a period in which he completely abandoned the practice of art and went to India in search of philosophical enlightenment [3] ; Together with his wife, he continues to travel there annually [4] .

Parkes sculpture Angel Affair (2004) was on the cover of the September-October 2004 issue of the Dutch Fine Arts Magazine , which also included an article about one of Parkes' exhibitions in the Netherlands [6] .
Lisa Starry from the Scorpius Dance Theater in 2007 created a modern dance production based on the works of Parkes [7] . In the same year, Parker was invited to exhibit his vision of Venus at the international exhibition of 35 artists working in the genre of magical realism, in Denmark [8] .
In 2009, one of Parkes' paintings, The Three Graces , was mentioned in Dan Brown 's novel “The Lost Symbol ” [9] . Parkes gave an interview about his interpretation of the symbolic use of his work in Brown's book [10] .
