Biography
Semyon Berezin was born on April 25 (in the new style - May 8 ) in 1902 in the village of Bereziny (now - Khalturinsky district of the Kirov region ) in a peasant family. He graduated from primary and secondary school. In 1924 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army , in 1926 he was demobilized, he worked as a teacher of physical culture and military affairs at the Khalturinsky Agricultural Technical School. In 1935 he was re-called in the Red Army, graduated from the retraining courses of the commanders, served in the infantry units of the Volga and Leningrad military districts [1] .
He took part in the Soviet-Finnish war, as a senior lieutenant and commander of the ski battalion of the 252nd rifle regiment of the 70th rifle division of the 7th army. In March 1940, his battalion was the first of the divisions to reach the shore of the Gulf of Finland near the town of Terioki (now Zelenogorsk, Leningrad Region ) and Fort Ino (now the village of Privetninskoe, Vyborg District, Leningrad Region), which contributed to the successful seizure of these settlements by Soviet troops. He led the reconnaissance, which carried out exploration of the islands of Ravansari and Tuppransari . Having traveled about 9 kilometers across the ice, the company seized these islands and cut off the highway leading to Vyborg , and held its position for three days until the main forces of the division approached [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 21, 1940, for "courage and heroism shown in battles", Senior Lieutenant Semyon Berezin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 445 [1] .
From June 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He held the post of chief of staff, deputy commander of a rifle regiment, initially fought on the South-Western Front . In April 1942 - May 1943, he was commander of the 472nd rifle regiment of the Voronezh Front , in May 1943 he commanded the rifle regiment on the Steppe and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts. At the end of 1943, Berezin was seriously wounded, after which he was in hospital for a long time [1] .
After the war, Berezin continued service in the Soviet Army, graduated from the Frunze Military Academy . He served as a military commandant of the city of Izmail, Odessa region , then commandant of the Odessa fortified area. In 1955, in the rank of Colonel Berezin was dismissed. He lived in Odessa , died June 20, 1967 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , World War 2 nd degree, Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
