The representative of the Polish magnate family of the Ossolinsky coat of arms " Ax ". The only son of Mikhail Ossolinsky (c. 1716 - after 1788) and Anna Zanevskaya (after 1724-1788).
Early became interested in national history and literature and began to collect the library. Having gone in 1789 as a member of the Galician deputation to Leopold II in Vienna, Ossolinsky remained there forever. Vigorously advocated the spread of enlightenment in Galicia, and petitions to the emperor, and articles (“On the potrzebie nauki prawa w kraju naszym”, etc.); led a friendship with Slavic scholars.
Ossolinsky donated his huge collections of books and manuscripts, a museum and large capitals to the education of the Polish National Institute in Lviv ( Lviv Institute of Ossolinsky ). Of the writings of Ossolinsky, the most valuable are: “Wiadomosci history czuo-krytyczne do dziejyw literatury polskiej” (Krakow, 1819-22, 3 tons; 4th volume. Published according to a manuscript, by Belevsky, in 1852).
