Culture (group) of Suceu de Sus (in Hungary - the culture of Felshesoch , in Ukraine - Stanivska culture ) - the archaeological culture of the Middle Bronze Age .

Distribution Area

Named after the archaeological site of Suchu de Sus in Romanian Transylvania.

It existed in the north-east of Hungary, in Ukrainian Transcarpathia, in the north-west of Transylvania and in the east of Slovakia ( East Slovak lowland ).

Origin

Comes from part of the Ottoman culture . It was part of the southeast subgroup of the circle of cultures of the fields of funeral urns .

Feature

Culture built settlements like tell on the banks of rivers and on elevations. Burials were carried out in graves, in funeral urns for ashes or in pits.

The culture is characterized by the presence of cremation sites located near burials in funeral urns, as well as the presence of ceramics with curved motifs made by inlaid with white paste.

Finds in Slovakia

Findings are mainly cremation burials in the areas of Bratsovce , Budkovec (Michalovce district), Zemplinsk Kopcany , Velke Raschkovec , Vinichki . In the area Velke Raskovce in the burial of the 15th century BC e. an amphora was found, which depicts an epic plot reminiscent of Homer's story about the burial of Patroclus. This is the most ancient element, reminiscent of ancient Greek culture, among the cultures of ancient central Europe.
