Tokyo's official symbols are special signs and objects that embody Tokyo's Japanese metropolitan prefecture and are officially used by the Tokyo authorities for identification. These include the coat of arms, flag, badge, flag with a badge, flower, tree and Tokyo bird. The image of symbols is widely used in official documentation, is depicted on various assets of the capital. Since the end of the 20th century, the most common is the sign of Tokyo in the form of a leaf of a ginkgo tree.

| Coat of arms of Tokyo ( Japanese 東京 都 紋章, と う き ょ う と も ん し ょ ょ That: kyo: that monsho:) - an emblem in the form of the sun with six rays. Rays illuminate the Sky, the Earth and the four cardinal points, symbolizing the greatness of the Imperial capital. [1] The emblem is Watanabe Hiromoto [2] . The emblem is made contrary to the rules of heraldry , so it is not actually a coat of arms . [3] . It was originally the emblem of the city of Tokyo, approved by the city council in December 1889. November 2, 1943 received the status of the emblem of the mother country. [4] The description of the emblem was adopted on November 8 of the same year. [5] . | |
| Tokio sign ( Japanese 東京 都 シ ン ボ ル マ ー ク, と う き ょ う と し ん ぼ る ま あ あ That: kyo: then simboru ma: ku ) is an emblem in the form of a leaf of a ginkgo tree of bright green color . It has the form of the Latin " T ", the first letter of the word "Tokyo". Formed by three semicircles and symbolizes hard work, prosperity and peace of mind. [6] The Tokyo metro sign chosen from among 20 candidates by the competition committee was approved on June 1, 1989 by the Tokyo administration on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Tokyo [2] . | Tokyo Flower - Yoshino Cherry ( 染 井 吉野, そ う め い よ し の Somei Yoshino ) , lat. Prunus × yedoensis . Sakura hybrid , bred in the 19th century in the village of Soma, in the Toshima area. It has a thick and lush color. In windy weather, sakura petals fall like snow . [2] It was selected on March 22, 1954 by the population of the capital as a result of the all-Japan contest “Flower of the Motherland”, which was held by the Japanese broadcasting company with the support of the Japanese government. | Tokyo Tree - Ginkgo bilobate ( Jap. 銀杏, い ち ょ う Ityo ) , lat. Ginkgo biloba . This is a relic plant that has survived only in Japan and parts of China . Resistant to fire, insects and environmental pollution. It is widely used for landscaping the capital. Elected on November 14, 1966 from three candidates (ginkgo, sakura , elm ) as a result of a public poll conducted in October of that year. Not officially approved by-laws. [9] [2] | |
| Tokyo Bird - The Black-headed Gull ( Japanese 百合 鴎, ゆ り か も め yurikamome ) , lat. Larus ridibundus . Migratory bird of the gull family. It has white feathers, red paws and a beak. Arrives in Japan from Siberia and Kamchatka . Winters in Tokyo from October to April in the Tokyo Bay , Sumida and Tama rivers.
