Biography
Nikolay Benesh was born in 1923 in the village of Krasnoe of the Vengerovsky district of the Novosibirsk region of the RSFSR into a peasant family [1] .
Since 1932 he lived in Omsk . He graduated from seven classes of school, then studied at the factory factory apprenticeship in the specialty turner in metal [1] .
He worked as a turner at the Omsk locomotive-car-repair plant in Omsk [1] .
In 1942, Benes was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In December 1942 he graduated from the Omsk Infantry School named after Frunze [1] .
From March 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, commanded the mortar platoon of the 205th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 70th Guards Rifle Division of the 13th Army of the Central Front [2] .
In the first battle he distinguished himself and was awarded the medal "For Courage" [1] .
Participated in the Battle of Kursk [2] .
Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . On the night of September 20 to 21, 1943, Guard Lieutenant Benesh, along with a mortar platoon using improvised means under enemy fire, forced the Dnieper near the village of Domantovo of the Chernobyl District of the Kiev Region [1] .
He took part in the reflection of the German counterattack. According to the report of the regiment commander, only on September 23, the Benesh platoon destroyed 5 easel machine guns , 2 bunkers , about 70 German soldiers and officers, repulsed 11 enemy counterattacks. The platoon was transferred from one area of the bridgehead to another, once was surrounded, but taking an unequal battle, broke through, destroying about 50 enemy soldiers and officers [2] .
During the pursuit of the retreating German units, a platoon broke into enemy positions and captured a mortar battery with ammunition, and then fought in the environment for a day, using captured weapons. Skillfully organized all-round defense inflicted significant losses on the enemy, made it possible to save platoon personnel and ensured a successful offensive of the battalion [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 16, 1943, Guards Lieutenant Nikolai Benesh was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal No. 3261 [2] .
During the battle in the area of the village Brusilov Zhytomyr region was seriously wounded. In operation returned after three months. On July 25, 1944, in the area of the town of Bobrka in the Peremyshlyansky district of the Lviv region of the Ukrainian SSR, a platoon of guard senior lieutenant Benesh reflected the counterattack. In battle, Benes died from a shell exploded next to him. He was buried in the village of Shpilchin Bobrk district of Lviv region, later the ashes were reburied in Bobrk [2] .
Memory
- A monument was erected at the tomb of N. A. Benesh in Bobrka [1] . On July 30, 2007, the monument as dilapidated without proper care was demolished. The authorities promised to restore the monument in 2011 , but no information about the restoration is available [3] .
- The street in Omsk [1] is named after Benesh, previously its name was also the secondary school and the square in Bobrka [2] .
