The construction of the enterprise on the site of the destroyed church in the name of St. Michael the Archangel began in 1932 [1] . One two-story brick building was built, kefir vats were installed on the foundation of the former church [1] . In 1937 , even before the completion of construction, the plant began to produce products. Assortment of 1940 : milk, butter, curd and cheese products, diet products, ice cream (5 varieties). On March 1, 1941, the plant received the status of an urban dairy-mechanized plant. During the war, work did not stop, the enterprise practically did not suffer [1] . In subsequent years, a partial reconstruction of the GMZ was carried out, the assortment changed, production was re-equipped, production lines were introduced.
In 1949, the Taganrog special school of masters of the dairy industry was opened on the territory of the plant, with a two-year training course [2] . The school lasted until at least 1956 [2] .
In 1959, a line for bottling milk and diet products in glass bottles was launched. In the 1960s, about 270 people worked. Cramped territory, the impossibility of further expansion of production caused attempts to build a new plant in another area. However, due to lack of funding, they were not implemented. In 1989, an oil mill was added to the old building, semi-automatic machines for filling milk into polypack bags were installed, and other improvements were made. In 1991, a new Krestyanskoye oil production site was built [1] .

For 2002, the main consumers of dairy products were budgetary organizations of the city (schools, hospitals, kindergartens) and various local catering enterprises [3] . Some of the products were sold at retail in Taganrog stores and markets [3] .
In October 2011, the press reported on the expected mass reduction of employees due to the harsh conditions in which Taganrog-Milk found itself: increasing raw materials prices, increasing the tax burden and increasing gas and electricity tariffs [4] .
February 1, 2012, production at the plant was stopped [5] . All employees of the enterprise were fired, only 6 people remained [5] [6] . Dismantled parts of the equipment. The main reason for the shutdown was called by the plant’s management the last two years at a loss. "Taganrog-Milk" processed up to 10 tons of milk per day, with available production capacities designed for 200 tons per day [5] . A land plot occupying one and a half hectares of land in the very center of the city became interested in several large federal retail chains [5] . The Magnit company was eyeing the territory of the dairy, but the parties did not agree on the price [7] . The interest in the territory was also shown by the X5 Retail Group company [8] . According to the newspaper Kommersant , the owners of the plant had previously tried to sell the site, but the city authorities did not allow them to do this [8] .
