Biography
Childhood in Jamaica, life in New York and the beginning of a career
Born in Spanish Town in Jamaica in 1948 [1] in the family of a church preacher and politician [2] [3] [4] . Jones, her brothers and sisters, were raised by grandparents while their parents worked in the United States. Jones received a strict upbringing under the influence of the Jamaica Pentecostal Church - she went to church three times a week. Both sides of her family were religious; Her family had many bishops: a grandfather, great-grandfather, and her brother, Noel, who also became a bishop.
As a child, Jones was a shy girl; she had only one school friend. Classmates teased her, calling her "skinny stick." Nevertheless, she excelled in sport and found solace in the nature of Jamaica [5] .
When she was thirteen, Jones and her family moved to Syracuse , New York. [6] After graduation, Jones entered the University of Syracuse , where she studied Spanish major (Spanish major) [7] . In college, Johns was noticed by a drama professor who offered to work with him in a play in Philadelphia; Jones left with him [7] . When Jones was eighteen, she moved to New York. She signed a contract as a model with the Wilhelmina Modeling agency . She moved to Paris in 1970 [7] [8] . Parisian fashion scene immediately drew attention to the unusual androgynous appearance of dark-skinned Jones. Yves Saint Laurent , Claude Montana , and Kenzo Takada hired her as a catwalk model, and she appeared on the covers of Elle , Vogue , Stern magazines, working with Helmut Newton , Guy Bourdin and Hans Fayor [9] . Jones was also a model for Azzedine Alaia. When working as a model in Paris, she rented an apartment with Jerry Hall and Jessica Lang . Hall and Jones often visited Club Sept , one of the most popular gay clubs in Paris in the 1970s and 80s, and interacted with Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld [10] .
First Disco Albums, collaboration with Tom Moulton
The singer's musical career began in gay disco clubs in New York. Jones skillfully made a bet on the homosexual image. She signed her first contract with Island Records , which gave her a disco producer, Tom Multon. Multon worked at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. Jones Portfolio 's debut album was released in 1977. The album contained three songs from Broadway musicals “Send in the Clown” by Stephen Sondheim from Little Night Serenade , “What I Did for Love” from the Choral Line and “Tomorrow” from Annie . The second side of the album is Edith Piaf ’s seven-minute composition “ La Vie En Rose ”, followed by three new recordings, two of which were written together with Jones (“Sorry”, “That's the Trouble”). The album concludes "I Need a Man", the first club hit Jones. The album was designed by Richard Bernstein, the artist of Interwiew magazine.
The Compass Point Period
Jones was in search of her musical style and image in the 1970s and 1980s, moving from disco- sound to rock and reggae . She demonstrated her new wave style experiments on the Warm Leatherette album in 1980. The album brought her critical acclaim, and the singer decided to re-collaborate with Chris Blackwell and Alex Sadkin over the second album, which they recorded at the studio Compass Point in the Bahamas .
The Nightclubbing album includes songs of various groups and artists, reoriented in the style of reggae, in particular Flash and the Pan, Bill Withers , Iggy Pop and Astor Piazzolla , including several new compositions co-written with Jones. Three songs were written by Barry Reynoldson, with whom Jones would later work on the album Living My Life (1982). One song, “Demolition Man,” was written by Sting , who would later record it with his band The Police for the album Ghost in the Machine [11] . The impressive rhythm section , which was included in most of the songs, was worked out by many musicians, including the duet Sly and Robbie , Barry Reynoldson, Mickey Chung, and Yuzyha Thompson's “Velcro”, which were better known as Compass Point Allstars. In 1981, the song “I've Seen That Face Before ( Libertango )” became one of her most famous hits. The album brought Jones huge popularity. He broke into the first lines of the music charts and remains one of the most commercially successful albums throughout her career. He appeared in the top five in more than four countries and became the best for the performer in the charts of the main Billboard albums and R & B charts. Due to the success of the record, Jones moved from disco-diva status to the rank of a star of international scale. This led to the organization of a series of concerts as part of the Jones A One Man Show conceptual tour in 1982 [12] [13] .

Johns voice covers two and a half octaves [17] .
At the beginning of her career, her music was based on the disco genre, and in the 80s Jones discovered the sound of a new wave . She recorded a series of albums starting in the 1980 Warm Leatherette , according to 1982's Living My Life . During this period, supported by the Jamaican rhythm group Sly and Robbie , Jones's music is characterized as a hybrid of rock, funk , post-punk , pop and reggae. This mix of genres influenced alternative music groups, including Massive Attack , Todd Terje , Gorillaz , Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem [18] .

Personal Life
Jones’s relationship with his father was tense; He was strict in education. He also had to distance himself from communicating with his daughter for religious reasons: the church refused to make him a bishop (according to the beliefs of a particular denomination - one should use his singing ability only to communicate with God [5] ). Bishop Robert W. Jones died on May 7, 2008. [26] Her mother, Marjorie, has always supported Jones's career (she sings on "William's Blood" and "My Jamacian Guy"), but cannot speak publicly [5] . Grandfather Jones, William, was also a musician and played with Nat King Cole [5] .
Jones was married twice: to producer Chris Stanley in 1989 and bodyguard Atila Altonbey in 1996 [27] .
From photographer Jean-Paul Good, Jones has a son, Paulo (born 19xx). She also has a granddaughter [17] .
She also met for four years with Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren , who worked as a security guard at a Sydney club and later became her bodyguard [28] .
