Geography
The city of Falkoping is located in western Sweden, on the territory of the Lena Västra-Götaland . It lies on the Stockholm-Gothenburg railway line, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Gothenburg. Falkoping is the administrative center of the Falkoping commune .
He is a member of the Slow City movement ( Italian Cittaslow).
History
The city is located in the historical and cultural district of Falbuygden . It is scientifically confirmed that already in the XII century a settlement existed in its place. In the 14th century, Falkoping received city rights. In the XVI century the city was in a state of complete decline, and during the war of 1563-1570. was burned. The restoration of urban life here was slow, and by 1800 only 450 people were living in Falköping. Intensive development began only in the middle of the 19th century, when a railway passed through the city and connected the largest cities of Sweden - Stockholm, Gothenburg and Helsingborg.
