Content
Description
Small wasps nesting in the hollow stems of plants, as well as in wood in the abandoned passages of xylophages. Abdomen with a stalk. The top of the clypeus is notched. Cheeks without a protrusion. Mandibles at apex carry two or three prongs. Fore wing with 3 submarginal cells. Antennal fossae separated from clypeus and located near middle of face. The legs of the middle legs carry one spur. The antennae of the male are 13-segmented, the females are 12-segmented. The mandibular palps consist of 6 segments, and the labial palps consist of 4. They hunt homoptera ( Homoptera ), mainly from the families of real aphids ( Aphididae ), leaf flies ( Psyllidae ), and the cicadas Delphacidae and Cicadellidae . [1] [2] [3]
Systematics
Over 120 species. They are found everywhere, but most of the species are noted in Southeast Asia. Also represented in the Palaearctic, Nearctic, Neotropic, Australia and Afrotropic. In Kazakhstan, 2 species are known. [1] [4] [5]
