The 1987 Pan-American Games is a multisports competition held from August 8 to 23, 1987 in the United States in the city of Indianapolis . 4360 athletes took part in the games. They competed in 297 disciplines in 30 sports. The US is hosting the Pan American Games for the second time. The first competition was held here in 1959 in Chicago .
