General Information
The full title of the work is Elenchus fungorum, sistens commentarium in Systema mycologicum .
The first volume of the work, Volumen I , was published in 1828 by Ernest Moritz in Greifswald . It included 238 pages. The second volume of the Index, Volumen II , included 154 pages. The second volume included an introduction of 6 pages. In some copies, this introduction is not in the second, but in the first volume.
In 1830, the book Elenchus fungorum was reprinted. However, in the new edition only the title page was noticeably changed, the title was changed to Systema mycologicum supplementum . Most of the work itself was left unchanged.
In 1832, a 202-page index of titles published in Systema and Elenchus was published. It was called Index alphabeticus generum, specierum et synonymorum in Eliae Fries Systemate mycologico ejusque supplemento "Elencho fungorum" enumeratorum sl
According to article 13 of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, the work of Elenchus fungorum is considered part of Systema mycologicum . Thus, the names of mushrooms, first used in the "Index", have priority over all names published before 1828.
