Founded in 1995 by Heikki Tuuri [1] specifically for the development of InnoDB. InnoDB was originally closed source , but after Innobase failed to find enough customers, the source code became open and in September 2000, cooperation began with the main MySQL developer, MySQL AB . As a result, in mid-2001, with version 3.23 MySQL, experimental support for InnoDB appeared, and with version 4.0 InnoDB became part of the standard package [2] [3] .

In 2005, the company was acquired by Oracle Corporation, the amount of the transaction was not disclosed (later, MySQL AB assets were transferred to Oracle as a result of the takeover of Sun Microsystems ). As an Oracle division and legal entity, Innobase Oy lasted until July 8, 2013, after which the organization was abolished and all employees were fully integrated into Oracle corporate structures.
