Music Style

Pianos Become the Teeth are famous among the post-hardcore bands that make up The Wave (its other members are La Dispute , Touché Amoré , Defeater and Make Do and Mend [1] ). In this movement, all groups write their works with emotionally-lyrical content, making a double emphasis on melodicity and severe overload. [2] Pianos Become the Teeth write songs based on early scream bands such as City of Caterpillar and Funeral Diner and, of course, on post-rock bands such as This Will Destroy You . [3] Vocalist Kyle Duffy writes very lyrical lyrics that often reflect his life events or plans for the future. [4] In the song “Cripples Can't Shiver”, Duffy describes his father and how the fight against multiple sclerosis affected his life. [3]

In an interview for Hearwax, Kyle commented on why he writes sad lyrics:

I feel that most of us and most groups tend to write sad lyrics. It's hard to write when you're happy. This does not mean that we are not happy as people. [four]

In 2014, the band signed to Epitaph Records and announced the release of their third studio album, “Keep You,” in which vocalist Kyle Duffy refused to use scream vocals and sang it clean.
