Shooting

Haley Steinfield and Douglas Booth as Juliet and Romeo respectively

Filming began on February 3, 2012 in Italy [7] .

Getting to work on the script, Julian Fellows noted that since Dzeffirelli, not a single truly classic adaptation of the play for a big movie, and although there were successful interpretations of the plot, but they took him away from the medieval origins that Shakespeare’s story implies. Fellouz also reported the intention of the creators to make the film more accessible to the modern generation. In the media, the project was interpreted as “Romeo and Juliet” for the generation of “Twilight” . However, this film is not an exact adaptation of the work of Shakespeare , because the original text in it is shortened and partially edited by Julian Fellows, who also made the author's inserts into the script ” [8] .

Directed by Carlo Carley immersed the film in the Italian environment, conducting field shooting in Caprarola , Subiaco , Mantua and Verona , as well as in the area Valpolicella. Some scenes of the film were shot in the decorations of the Chinechitta studio in Rome [8] .

Since the role of Juliet was approved by a minor actress - 15-year-old Haley Steinfield , Carley found it necessary to make some changes to the original scenario, designed for the participation of 22-year-old Lily Collins , excluding from it all the explicit scenes involving the exposure of the characters. The role of Romeo played a 19-year-old Briton Douglas Booth , who believes that the new film version turned out unlike the film Zeffirelli [9] . Actresses Dakota Fanning , Emma Watson , Emily Browning , Imogen Putts , Shailene Woodley and Abby Cornish also tried out for the role of Juliet.

The film’s co-producer is the winner of 3 Oscars and other prestigious nominations and awards, the Italian artist Milena Canonero [8] .

Operator of the film “Romeo and Juliet” David Tattersall (David Tattersall) took part in the creation of films such as “ Star Wars ”, “ Green Mile ” and others [8] .

Production designer Tonino Zera, costume designer Carlo Poggi [8] .

Soundtrack

The musical accompaniment to the film was completely created by the Polish composer, Golden Globe nominee Abel Kozhenyovski.
