Evergreen Group emerged in 1975 as a result of the diversification of the business of the shipping company Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) , which was established in 1968, and is, as of 2013, the 5th largest sea container carrier in the world. [2]
Today, the Evergreen Group is about 18 thousand employees, more than 240 offices / agencies around the world, a structure of about 50 companies around the world, three of which are listed on the Taipei Stock Exchange.

History
In 1961, Captain Chang Yung Fa ( Chang Yung-fa ), 張榮 發), together with several friends, organized a shipping company. Then he decided to create his own company and on 1 September 1968 founded the Evergreen Marine Corporation , whose fleet consisted of only one used vessel with a deadweight of 15 thousand tons. In the next 5 years, the company's fleet increased to 12 ships.
In 1975, Chang predicted a container boom and acquired four container ships, putting them on the line to the east coast of the United States.
In 1989, the first privately-owned Taiwanese airline, EVA Airways Corporation, was established.
In 1998, the company acquired the Italian shipping company Lloyd Triestino, which since 2006 has been renamed Italia Marittima SpA , which expanded the company's scope to Europe.
In 2002, the shipping company Hatsu Marine was registered in London.
In 2006, the Kuomintang sold its former headquarters to the Evergreen Group for $ 96 million, currently the company’s Maritime Museum is located in this building.
In 2010, the company announced that it has ambitious plans to double the fleet, which at that time consisted of 81 vessels.
