Game career
Antoine Comboire began his career at FC Nantes , where he became known to the football community. After a short period spent in the humble Toulon, Comboire became a player in Paris Saint-Germain . Its popularity has grown markedly after goals scored by Anderlecht and Real Madrid at the 1/8 and 1/4 stages of the UEFA Cup in the 1992/93 season. The partners in the line of defense were famous players of the 90s - Ricardo , Paul Le Guen and Alain Rocha . Two years later, the Parisians, led by captain Comboire, knocked out Barcelona under the leadership of Johan Cruyff at the quarterfinals of the Champions League . But on the way to the final, the team from the capital of France was twice beaten by AC Milan .
In 1995, he signed a contract with the Swiss Sion . The following season, for 300 thousand dollars, he moved to the Aberdeen , which was experiencing not the best of times. The young coach of the Scottish club Roy Aitken decided to invite Antoine to the team, believing that an experienced defender will be able to strengthen the unsuccessfully playing defensive line of the team. Kombuare played 50 matches for the club and scored three goals. In May 1998 left Aberdeen.
Coaching career
In 2003, as a coach of the youth composition of PSG, Kombuare was considered one of the candidates for the vacant post of head coach of the main team, but the arrival of another ex-player in Paris Vahid Khalilhodzhich changed the plans of Antoine. He decides to lead Strasbourg . However, a bad start in the 2004/05 season led to his dismissal from the club.
In July 2005 he was appointed head coach of the Valenciennes club, which at that time lived in the second echelon of French football. In his first season, he led them to advance the league higher, where a club from the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region has been absent since 1993. For three seasons, Comboire helped the club to master the highest level of French football. He improved the team's position in every season: 14th place in 2006-2007, 13th in 2007-2008 and 12th in 2008-2009. The comboire was able to achieve very good results for a club with an average composition and a limited budget.
In May 2009, the former Club Saint-Germain Comboire club finally offered him the position of head coach. He agreed and signed a 3-year contract, replacing Paul Le Guine, with whom he played in FC Nantes and PSG. In the 2009/10 season, the Paris club, despite the signing of players such as Mevlut Erdinch and Gregory Coupe , did not play the best in League 1 , ending the championship in the middle of the tournament table. Kombuare remained at his post largely due to his success in the French Cup, where they defeated Monaco in the final.
In 2010-2011, he again brought the capital's players to the finals of the National Cup, which they lost to the French champions Lille FC. In the League Cup, the Parisians seemed to have already begun to prepare for a new confrontation with the implacable rivals from the Marseille Olympic , but Montpellier were defeated in the semifinals. In the league, the team performed more successfully, finishing in fourth place. The Parisians almost reached their goals, but they were let down by general fatigue and inability to achieve results in the most crucial matches. Nevertheless, the attacking football, in which PSG played under the leadership of Antoine Comboire, aroused the sympathy of many spectators and specialists.
The club acquired the Qatari millionaire Nasser Al-Helaifi. A lot of money was invested in strengthening the team, the famous Brazilian Leonardo became the sports director. There was talk of an invitation and a more eminent coach. At first, the management decided not to change Comboire, but the first relative setbacks cost the coach his place. On December 29, Antoine was dismissed from his post, and the very next day Carlo Ancelotti took his place.
On June 27, 2012, it was confirmed that Kombuare was appointed head coach of the Al-Hilal club from Saudi Arabia. The contract with him was signed for a period of one year.
