In such conditions, waging restraining battles that sometimes occurred suddenly, in the most unexpected places, the 116th tank brigade by July 4, 1942 was in the area of Nizhnedevitsk , Vyaznovatovka. The task of the brigade was to prevent the breakthrough of tanks and motorized infantry of the enemy on good roads going from Nizhnedevitsk to Orekhovo and to Verkhnyaya Turovo. These roads were overloaded with retreating rifle units of the Red Army , which suffered heavy losses. The evacuation of wounded rear units and the transportation of ammunition and fuel took place along these roads. In this area, anti-aircraft batteries of the brigade fired at enemy tanks all day on the 4th and part of the day on July 5th. The fire platoon of the anti-tank battery was especially distinguished under the command of Junior Lieutenant Nikolai Petrovich Zagorsky. At the place of his death in with. Vyaznovatovka erected a monument designed by sculptor A. S. Meshcheryakov. Posthumously N.P. Zagorsky was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree.
