Golub, as an excellent military and political training, was one of the first to transfer to a new vehicle. At the first driving lessons, Re showed a high class and received thanks from the commander of the unit [3] .

During the Great Patriotic War
Since the beginning of World War II fought on the North-Western Front . In December 1942, tank mechanic sergeant I. P. Golub was sent to the Oryol Frunze Armored School , which he successfully graduated in the fall of 1943, on the eve of the holiday on November 7 [3] .
The tank commander of the 2nd battalion of the 13th Guards Tank Brigade of the 4th Guards Tank Corps of the 60th Army Guards Junior Lieutenant I. P. Golub fought on the 1st Ukrainian front [2] .
At the end of 1943, in the area of Chopovichi in the Zhytomyr region, the crew of his tank defended an important section in the path of the enemy, who had launched a counterattack. Despite the numerical superiority of the enemy, he successfully repulsed several attacks, preventing the enemy from advancing and entering the rear of the Soviet troops, disabling two " tigers ", destroyed more infantry platoons, and put down several guns [2] .
On December 24, the Zhytomyr-Berdichev operation began , and the 13th Guards Tank Brigade itself launched an offensive. Tankers took control of the road from Zhytomyr to the north and then, turning to the south-west, cut the Zhytomyr- Novograd-Volynsky railway line. During the offensive, I.P. Golub, along with other tank crews, broke into the village of Genovichi , where they destroyed several enemy guns and vehicles, and when the German troops counterattacked, they skillfully organized a defense. Having put his tank into the shelter and having well disguised it, the crew of I. P. Golub managed to let the two German heavy tanks “ Tiger ” closer and tackle the first of them from a short distance. The second tank attempted to hide in a hollow, but I.P. Golub undertook a maneuver, and bypassing the skyscraper on the left, set fire to the "tiger" from the vantage point [3] .
In the evening of December 31, tank crews of the brigade entered the area of the village High Furnace of the Zhytomyr region [3] . On January 5, 1944, his tank at high speed rapidly and unexpectedly for the enemy broke into the village and attacked the enemy, who had quite significant forces there. Tankers shot three " tigers ", two self-propelled guns " Ferdinand ", five guns and with fire of their machine gun destroyed the enemy soldiers to the company. It was also broken several cars with ammunition and military cargo. A panic arose in the village, and the crew of I. P. Golub, moving from house to house, shot the escaping soldiers [2] .
Having escaped forward, the tankers intercepted the road along which the enemy was retreating, smashed the head vehicle of the column and stopped traffic. As a result, more than 40 cars and 50 loads with cargoes were captured [2] .
In this battle, the tank I. P. Golub received six holes, and the commander himself was stunned and wounded by fragments. Despite the difficult condition, he continued to fight near the village of Gordiyevka . Here the crew of his tank entered combat with the enemy's field battery, which fired at the 2nd tank battalion advancing on the village [2] .
In the tank is no longer a single shell. And then I.P. Golub made a bold decision - to crush the guns with the tracks of his tank. At top speed, the car rushed to the battery, the guns were crushed by caterpillars, and the artillery calculations so far were enough cartridges shot from a machine gun [2] .
The path to the 2nd tank battalion of the 13th Guards Tank Brigade was cleared, but Guards Junior Lieutenant Ivan Platonovich Golub was killed in this battle [2] .
