There are several dozen libraries in Kurgan . The largest library organizations are the Kurgan Regional Universal Scientific Library named after A.K. Yugova ^[1] is the largest library in the Kurgan region . The first public library in Kurgan opened in 1894 . The central library system unites all the libraries of the city of Kurgan , founded in 1975 . ^[2]

In November 2017, a library — the Museum “ Life of remarkable people ” - opened in Kurgan , the first cultural and leisure facility in Russia that not only stores books, but also tells about the history of books and historical figures. Among the exhibits of the library, the museum and the Urals authors are Anatoly Agaryshev and Alexey Yugov ^[3] .

The city has about 10 different regional museums and branches ^[4] , as well as many museums based on educational institutions, organizations and enterprises ^[5] . The Kurgan Regional Museum of Local Lore is considered the oldest museum; the museum has existed for 63 years.

The first professional theater in Kurgan appeared in 1943 on the basis of the troupe of the Shadrinsk State Drama Theater . Currently there are 4 theaters in Kurgan , many of them conduct tours not only in Russia, but also abroad. Then, after 5 years, the Kurgan Puppet Theater “Gulliver” was founded, later the People’s Theater Studio “Saturday” , the People’s Theater Studio “Saturday +” and the Kurgan Theater of Fire “ZHARRA” were opened .

Cinemas

In Kurgan there are 3 operating cinemas, the oldest of which is Sovremennik , the most spacious is MEGAFILM . More than 100 years have passed since the opening of the first cinema in Kurgan , about 15 cinemas were closed in Kurgan between 1980 and 2000s . Recently, new cinemas open, as a rule, in shopping and entertainment centers .

• Kurgan Regional Philharmonic Society is a philharmonic society with a concert hall with 1100 seats and a chamber hall with 180 seats.

In Kurgan , musical groups were founded that became known throughout the country. The greatest popularity was achieved by “Alien Dreams” , “Psyche” and others.

In Kurgan there are centers for the development of modern dance, in the city there are dance teams:

• Kurgan school of modern dance "PARADOX" ;

• The Central Park of Culture and Leisure is the main park of the city, a popular venue for mass holidays. The park is located on an island, Tobol flows around it. In the park there are: a children's railway , a beach stadium , a fountain , a bridge of lovers, the Victory Obelisk, a climbing wall, a sculpture of the Mermaid, the HAPPY Alley, a sculpture of Neptune, a sculpture of Old Russian warriors, a monument to outgoing technologies.

Despite the dense buildings, the city has a large number of gardens, squares and parks , the most famous - Victory Park , city ​​garden , youth square .
