Biography
She was born on August 4, 1915 in Ukraine in the village of Pervozvanovka, Poltava province. At seven, she remained an orphan. Father Alexei Fyodorovich died at the front in 1916, mother Nadezhda Mironovna died in 1922. In 1930 she graduated from a seven-year village school and went to Poltava, where she studied at a medical college, then at a Red Cross nursing course, after which until 1935 she worked as a nurse [2] . In the same place in Poltava in 1930-1933 she was engaged in an art studio [3] .
In World War II she worked as a medical inspector. Since 1945 she lived and worked in Leningrad. In 1950 she married the artist A. N. Samokhvalov . Under his influence, formed as an artist. Since 1952 she worked in the workshop of A. N. Samokhvalov in Tuchkov Lane. Since 1957, participated in exhibitions [3] . She painted portraits, landscapes, still lifes. She posed for A. N. Samokhvalova for many paintings and sketches. At the beginning of the 1960s, it was adopted at LOSH ; A.A. Deineka, among others, wrote his recommendation [4] . Among the works created by M. A. Kleshchar-Samokhvalova, the paintings “Crimean Courtyard” [3] (1957), “Poppies” [5] (1958), “Verochka” [6] (1960), “Chersonesos”, “Mother " [7] (both 1961)," Natasha " [8] (1962)," Olga Berggolts in the days of the blockade " [3] ," Still Life "," Girl with a Flower " [9] (all 1963)," Still Life " [10] (1964), “Interior”, “Komsomolka Valya Komrakova” [11] (both 1968), “Roses” [12] , “Still Life with Yellow Daisies” (both 1970), “Still Life with Quince” [13] (1972), “On Fates” [14] (1973), “Student” [15] (1974), “Carnations (Self-portrait)” [3] (1981), “Memory” [16] (1987) and others.
After the death of A. N. Samokhvalov, she took an active part in preserving her husband’s artistic heritage, publishing his literary heritage [17] [18] , and organizing anniversary exhibitions [19] .
Maria Alekseevna Kleshchar-Samokhvalova died on July 21, 2000 in St. Petersburg in her eighty-fifth year of life. Her works are in museums and private collections in Russia and abroad. Famous portraits of M. A. Kleshchar-Samokhvalova performed in 1950-1960 by A. N. Samokhvalov [20] [21] .
