Biography
A detailed biography of Jon Blooming is set out in his autobiographical book, “From a Street Hooligan to the Tenth Dan” [4] . According to Blooming himself, he came to martial arts by accident. During the war in Korea, he was injured in the leg and in February 1951 he was sent to Japan for treatment and rehabilitation. There, in his free time, he visited the Kodokan , where a demonstration of judo techniques was held. She made a great impression on him, and upon returning home, the future master began to practice judo in a small dojo in the city of Amsterdam - this was the beginning of his career as a fighter.
He received his first black belt in 1954 in judo. In 1957, Jon Blooming, as the captain of the Dutch national team, led his team to gold medals at the European Championships.
In 1959 , having won a number of victories in various tournaments, Jon Blooming went to Japan. In the land of the rising sun, thanks to the assistance of Donald Draeger , a young Dutch athlete was awarded the right to train at the Kensusei dojo along with the 25th best judokas in Japan. Very soon, John Blooming proved himself here, taking third place in the hierarchy of the best fighters. Wanting to penetrate deeper into Japanese fighting spirit, Blooming, together with Don Drager, begins to study ancient Japanese martial arts such as kenjutsu and jujitsu .
However, Blooming's most strikingly phenomenal talent manifested itself in karate . He began his first steps in the development of this martial art in the head unit of Kyokushinkai with master Masutatsu Oyama . In 1962, Jon Blooming returns to his homeland and introduces karate to Europe. On January 15, 1965, Masutatsu Oyama assigned Jon Blooming 6th dan, making the Dutch master the only person at that time outside Japan with such a high rank. On September 4, 1994, Yon Blooming received the news from his old teacher Kenji Kurosaki, which stated that he (Blooming) was awarded the highest degree in karate - 10 dan in Kyokushin. In 2011, he was awarded 10 dan according to Hapkido.
Jon Blooming conducted seminars and dan tests around the world, including in Russia. During his coaching career, Blooming raised such champions as Chris Dolman, William Ruska and others. [4] [5]
