National Day of Remembrance of the Warsaw Uprising ( Polish: Narodowy Dzień Pamięci Powstania Warszawskiego ) is a Polish state holiday, celebrated annually on August 1 since 2010. It is not a day off.

The holiday is set in memory of the victims and participants of the Warsaw Uprising , which began on August 1, 1944 in Warsaw .
History
The holiday was established by the Polish Sejm in accordance with the law On the Establishment of the National Day of Remembrance of the Warsaw Uprising , which was adopted on the initiative of the Polish President Lech Kaczynski . 397 deputies voted for the introduction of the holiday, 1 was against and 6 abstained. The Polish Senate passed the Law without amendments on November 5, 2009 . The law establishing the holiday was published on December 7, 2009 .
The preamble to the law states:
"In memory of the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising - those who, defending the existence of the state, fought with arms in their hands for the liberation of the Capital, sought to recreate the institutions of an independent Polish state, opposed German occupation and the ghost of Soviet slavery that threatened the next generation of Poles."
