Kryvorotovye [1] [2] ( lat. Cryptacanthodidae ) - a family of marine ray-fin fish from the order scorpion - shaped . They are found in the northern parts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans [2] .

Description
Coastal bottom fish. The body is elongated and in most of them is bare, compressed laterally in the back. The length of large species is up to 1.2 m ( Cryptacanthodes giganteus ) [3] . They differ from the close perch-like families in their characteristic, obliquely arranged (“crooked”) large mouths with a massive lower jaw protruding forward. The head above is flat oblong, almost tetrahedral. They have long dorsal (60-80 prickly rays) and anal (1-3 prickly rays and 43-52 soft rays) fins, which are connected by a membrane with the caudal; ventral fins absent. The number of vertebrae: 71–88 [2] [4] .
