The setup was built to study the physics of light mesons , as well as for precision measurements of the annihilation cross section of an electron - positron pair into hadrons [1] . Accurate measurement of this cross section is very important for calculating the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon . Comparison of the theoretical and experimental values of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is one of the methods most sensitive to New Physics . The energy of the colliding particles will be 2 GeV in the center-of-mass system, which is enough for the nucleon-antinucleon pair to be created and will allow, in particular, measuring the neutron form factor .
The accelerator has two elementary particle detectors : SND and KMD-3 . One of the fundamental features is the implementation on this machine of the concept of round beams, which is supposed to allow the threshold to be moved away from the meeting effects [2] in the direction of increasing circulating currents and thereby increase the luminosity of the installation. The design luminosity L = 10 32 cm −2 s −1 (when using electrons and positrons from the VEPP-5 injection complex) at an energy of 1 GeV in the beam.
Dataset
In 2010 - 2013 , VEPP-2000 conducted data sets in the energy range 0.3–2.0 GeV (total integrated luminosity was about 70 pb −1 ). During 2014 - 2015 , the complex was modernized for working with electrons and positrons from the VEPP-5 injection complex. It is assumed that this will increase the luminosity by an order of magnitude. In January-June 2017 , a set of new data was conducted. Recruitment continued in November 2017.
