Initial Biography
Alexander Kuzmich Sokolsky was born on December 6, 1903 at the Aleksikovo station, now Novonikolayevsky district, Volgograd region, into a peasant family.
He taught incomplete secondary education.
Military Service
Pre-war period
In September 1921 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army .
In 1925 he graduated from the 1st Leningrad artillery school, and in 1933 and in 1937 - artillery advanced training courses for command personnel.
He served as head of battery intelligence, commander of an artillery battalion of an equestrian artillery division, head of a regimental school and assistant commander of an equestrian artillery regiment.
In 1938 he was appointed to the post of commander of a separate artillery division, then served as chief of artillery of the cavalry division.
Since 1939 - Chief of Artillery of the 74th Rifle Division ( North Caucasus Military District ).
World War II
As part of the division, he took part in defensive battles in the south of Ukraine and in the Donbass .
In January 1942, he was appointed deputy chief of artillery of the 12th army and in this position took part in the Barvenkovo-Lozovsky operation . In February 1942 he was appointed to the post of chief of artillery of the same army and took part in defensive battles in the Don and Kuban . From September 4 to 12, 1942, he temporarily acted as commander of the 12th Army in the Tuapse direction.
Since September 1942, he was chief of artillery of the 12th Army and took part in the Novorossiysk and Tuapse operations during the battle for the Caucasus .
In January 1943 he was appointed to the post of chief of artillery of the 56th Army ( Black Sea Group of Forces ), while on which he led the artillery of the army during the offensive during the battle for the Caucasus, as well as in the Krasnodar offensive operation .
Since April 1943, he was in the position of chief of artillery of the 37th Army and took part in hostilities on the Taman Peninsula and in the Novorossiysk-Taman operation . From November 1943 - deputy commander of artillery, and since January 1944 he commanded artillery of the Separate Primorsky Army .
From May 1944 until the end of the war he commanded artillery of the 2nd Belorussian Front . He took part in the Byelorussian (including Mogilev , Minsk , Bialystok operations ), Ruzhany, East Prussia (including the Mlava-Elbing operation ), East Pomeranian and Berlin operations .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 29, 1945, for the courage and heroism shown during the fulfillment of command assignments at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders, artillery colonel general Alexander Kuzmich Sokolsky was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal (No. 7378).
Post-War Career
In September 1945 he was appointed commander of the artillery of the Northern Group of Forces ( Poland ).
From June 1948 to 1951 he commanded the artillery of the Transcaucasian Military District .
In 1952, Sokolsky graduated from the Higher Academic Courses at the K.E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy and from January 1953 he worked as the branch head - deputy head of the F.E.Dzerzhinsky Military Academy , and in February 1954 he would be appointed to the post of chief Artillery Research Institute No. 1.
In 1955, resigned.
Alexander Kuzmich Sokolsky died on November 14, 1979 in Moscow . He was buried at Kuntsevsky cemetery (plot 9-3).
