Bachelor of Arts (1961) at the University of Laval; Bachelor of Science (1963), University of Montreal; MSc (1965) and Ph.D. (1968) Stanford . From 1960 to 2002, he taught at the University of Montreal (head of the Department of Economics in 1973-76). He was president of the Canadian Economic Association (1974-75).
