Game plot

People created the Cylon, but they got out of control and rebelled against the creators. 40 years after the first Cylon War, the cars returned and struck the Twelve Colonies. The battered star cruiser Galaxy managed to survive after the Cylon attack. Taking with them a string of civilian ships, people went in search of the legendary lost Thirteenth Colony - planet Earth .

After months of harassment by the Cylon army, the Galactica star cruiser and the colonial fleet under its protection teamed up with the Pegasus cruiser, who also miraculously escaped from vehicles. Together, they managed to avenge the Cylon and destroy their resurrection ship. The Cylons, blinded by rage due to the loss of the resurrection ship, deliver a powerful retaliation to the colonies. The Galaxy sees the only chance to escape in a distant leap. But here something fatal happens: the superlight engines of both fleets receive a destructive energy discharge, so that they are thrown far from the intended course. Colonial and Cylon fleets find themselves in an unknown sector at the edge of the galaxy. Both fleets suffered heavy losses. Both humans and Cylon have run out of resources. At this crucial moment, it is important to restore the fleet and arm yourself for the final battle for dominance over a system rich in tilium, metals and water. The colonial fleet is desperately trying to escape and continues to search for the planet Earth before the Cylons gain strength for a deadly strike.

The player accepts one of the parties (people or Cylon) and helps to obtain resources for his fleet in this area of space, destroying enemies along the way. The developers promise to introduce some epic missions that can affect the overall plot, but now all the missions are reduced to typical tasks: kill, dig, scan and hold the planetoid.

Space and Bases

Players are given for research (and war with each other) about 36 systems [3] . Inside the system, you can navigate using conventional engines. There are two modes of movement - normal and turbo boosters, which consumes additional fuel - tilium.

The space is completely three-dimensional and the battle goes on in all dimensions, but all the objects inside the system (asteroid fields and planetoids) lie along a certain plane, so in a normal situation there is no sense flying up / down and outside the system. It’s simply empty and sometimes personal mobs fly there to destroy light ships, since newcomers often fly over the edge of the system.

Between the movement systems, they occur using a FTL drive, each ship has its own jump radius (which can be upgraded with skills / additional devices on the ship). Fuel is spent on jumping - tilium. The galactic map is two-dimensional, but very important for the player.

Each side also has two “home” systems in which the people of the Galaxy and Pegasus are located and, accordingly, the base ships of the Cylon. You can land on these ships and walk along their corridors. Unfortunately, there are no other people in them. Only NPCs that issue missions.

In addition to base stations in other systems, there may be outposts (outposts). At stations and outposts, you can buy and improve weapons and various computer modules of armor and engine, stock up on ammunition, sell space debris and repair the ship. On basic systems, you can buy a new one and upgrade an old ship.

Management

Management is similar to the game Freelancer . You can fly using the WASD keys , and also indicating the direction with the right mouse button (the camera rotates with the left mouse button). The rest of the management of additional systems can also be carried out from the keyboard or mouse.

Fight

In combat, there is no weapon control (except to turn it off altogether), as soon as the target falls into range and is taken into sight, the guns are activated automatically and start firing. Missiles are fired manually by pressing the appropriate key. The angle of attack of the weapon is 75 degrees for AK and 180 degrees for SK and LC. There is a multi-purpose weapon that allows you to simultaneously fire at several targets (This means that each cannon can set its own separate target).

Death

After death, the character is reborn with the ship at the nearest base / outpost, from where you can go back into battle. During the battle, the ship gradually loses strength points and must be periodically repaired. From destroyed ships you can get cartridges, sometimes some modules and various kinds of space debris, which can be sold at the outpost for tilium.

Resources

  • Tilium - a mineral extracted from asteroids and planetoids. It is used as fuel for jumping between systems, accelerated movement and as the main currency in the store (for buying ordinary things).
  • Titanium - a mineral mined from asteroids and planetoids. Used to repair a ship.
  • Water - extracted from asteroids (a rare resource) and planetoids. The only application is exchange for qubits in a ratio of 5: 1.
  • Qubits - currency (for the purchase and improvement of elite things). Bought for real money - the rate of 10 euros = 30500 qubits.
  • Letters (Merits) - earned for PvP and destruction of outposts of the opposite faction. Necessary for the improvement of some ships, the purchase / rental of advanced ships, for the purchase of advanced ammunition.

Resource Mining

There are two types of mining. The first occurs by scanning asteroids. The scanner can detect valuable resources that are obtained by shooting such asteroids. It is useful to “tag” empty asteroids by inflicting small damage on them. The miner may be shot down and the color coding will disappear in this case. Emerging new asteroids in this case will be distinguishable from old empty ones.

The second is holding a planetoid with resources while it is being pumped by a mining ship. When scanning a large asteroid (planetoid) if a resource is found on it, it is proposed to call a mining ship from the base (cost 100 qubits). As soon as a challenge occurs, he sits on a planetoid to extract resources. Hostile NPC ships regularly spawn on the mining ship and try to bring it down. When the entire resource from the planetoid is mined, the mining ship jumps back to base, and the planetoid falls apart to appear again after a while. Minerals are distributed among the entire group that caused this ship. The speed of production depends on the level of presence of your fraction in the system.

Ships

Spaceships in the game are divided into three classes in size: Strike (Strike, AK), Escort (Escort, SC), Line (Linear, LC) [4] .

  • Strikes: small ships, least of all armor, small damage to guns and firing range, but high evasion, flight speed and frequency of fire.
  • Escorts: medium ships, average speed, average standard of living, average damage.
  • Linear: heavy ships, maximum armor and high damage, slow and slow.
  • Carriers: aircraft carriers - flying outposts for strikes on which they can land, repair and resurrect - they can mark a specific enemy with a marker, hanging him with strong debuffs , they can repair all strikes within a certain radius. Alone, they are very vulnerable, do not have strong weapons, and serve as a kind of fortress-support for a group of strikes.

Within each class there is a specific division, but the division is subjective:

  • Interceptor - interceptors, very fast ships with a small reserve of life. They take their toll due to speed and maneuverability, it is difficult to shake off such a ship from the dead zone.
  • Assault - tanks, high regeneration speed, a lot of armor.
  • Command - electronics (command, support), have many slots for electronics modules, which allows you to temporarily improve the parameters of your ships in a certain radius around you. Speed, maneuverability, range of guns. These parameters can also worsen in the selected enemy ship.
  • Multi - multi-purpose ship, has an average life reserve, medium speed. The only one in its class that after the upgrade has the most slots for weapons.

The balance of the game is designed in such a way that it is quite difficult for a heavy ship to destroy a strike, since large guns rarely hit the strike, and the strike is easy enough to keep in the dead zone of the LC guns in the tail zone. Due to its high speed, the strike is able to quickly exit the battle. Escorts are designed to protect the LC from AK and shoot down missiles (which can also be done by strikes). Usually in a 1 on 1 battle with AK, the SK has a better chance of winning, since the damage and armor of the SK are higher, and the dead zone is almost absent. In the battle with the LC, the SK has a chance only in the ability to fit in the dead zone, which is much more difficult to do than AK. Well, LK is the most powerful ships with maximum damage and armor, capable of destroying almost any mob and designed to inflict the main damage to other LK, as well as going on campaigns in groups at the outposts of the enemy. The balanced participation of all types of ships in the group and the clear implementation of their roles is the key to the success of the group.

A new class of ships appeared - Carriers [5] . And with the introduction of the update on February 17, carriers are available on the Kobol test server [6] . These ships have the ability to take attacking ships from the group on board for the resurrection, repair and replenishment of ammunition. They also have special XL equipment that can mark enemy targets and give strong buffs / debuffs [7] .

Weapons

The weapons in the game Battlestar Galactica Online are presented in different types.

The main ones are cannon turrets. The color of the shells in the Colonies is red, in the Cylons - blue. Also, shots from AK guns have a different sound of shots from people and Cylon. Turrets are in turn divided into three types of range:

  • short, but with a high rate of fire and, accordingly, DPS , - used for close combat - consume a lot of energy, because of which there may be a situation during the battle that the ship will shoot intermittently when the energy drops to zero;
  • medium range - averaged turrets, used when there is not enough energy for short turrets, and insufficient damage from distant turrets;
  • long-range - they have the highest attack range and low energy consumption, but at the same time low shooting speed - are used for tactical combat at a distance or to finish off an evading enemy.

The second type of weapon is missiles, they are also of different types of ranges as well as self-guided and without self-guidance. DPS from missiles is smaller and can be shot down, but they are not affected by the amount of enemy evasion.

The choice of ship equipment is made in accordance with the tactics of warfare. In addition to the basic weapons, ships can be equipped with mines and anti-aircraft guns to destroy missiles. The configuration of the LC, fully armed with anti-aircraft guns to defend the Outpost from missiles and inflict massive damage to the AK, also has some meaning.

The weapon itself can improve in 2 directions (depending on the type of gun) - to increase the range or the chance of a critical hit [8] .

Modules

Ships can be equipped with various weapons and modules that improve certain characteristics of the ship. The ship has a larger number of slots for profile modules. Interceptors - engines, tanks - armor, command - computers. All modules and ships can be improved. Modules increase the efficiency of all their parameters by 10-90%.

Skills

The skill system in the Battlestar Galactica Online space game resembles EvE Online . There are about 15 different skills. By doing missions and killing NPCs, experience points are earned for which you can improve one of your skills to the next level. Improvement occurs immediately, but in order to improve the next skill, it takes time to complete the current one. Skills are also needed to upgrade weapons and modules. Each skill level adds 1% to one or another characteristic of the player (ship speed, cannon strength, jump range, etc.). Experience points also determine the level of the character. By accumulating a certain amount of experience, the player receives a new level. Escort class ships require level 10, battleships require level 20, and carriers require level 40.

System War

Both factions are trying to take control of a large number of systems. Control over the system gives the faction the presence in it of its outpost ship. You can land on this ship and it has all the functions of a base ship, except for issuing missions (resurrection point, purchase of equipment / ammunition, repairing the ship and changing your ship to another one if available). It also gives a bonus to the work of mining ships in this system. Systems differ in the level of threat, the higher the level, the more powerful NPC ships fly in it and the level of personal mobs that appear near the ship with a certain frequency (and the more valuable the resources collected in it). To seize control of the system, it is necessary that fractional ships are present in the system and that mining / NPC hunting actively increase the level of presence by active actions, and when the influence reaches 100%, an outpost ship arrives in the system. The maximum impact can be brought up to 300%. In turn, the enemy can attack the outpost ship and when the level in the system drops below 100%

In addition to an outpost in the system, when a certain percentage of control is reached, an “SSD-Mayak” may appear, which allows hyper jumping not to a random place on the system’s border, but to a radius of ~ 1500 from the outpost; light, medium and heavy gun platforms (up to 4 at the same time, lighter ones are replaced by heavier ones), which are equipped, respectively, with armaments of strike, escort and battleship classes. The faction that controls fewer systems receives a bonus to the number of outpost lives (initially 50,000, which is equal to the strength of the main ships of the flotillas - Pegasus, Galaxy and the base ship) and the cost of renting a base ship / Pegasus (about it below) decreases from 10,000 letters to 5,000 at minimum controlled systems. In turn, the HP of the outpost of the dominant side is declining.

Outpost hikes

In the game there is another type of resource - merit (certificates) obtained for the destruction of players of the opposite faction, completing daily quests and participating in campaigns at enemy outposts. An outpost with defenders can be destroyed by a large group of at least 5-7 LCs and SK and AK ships for shooting down outpost missiles. In the absence of protection, a smaller group can also cope with this task.

Summon Base Ship

Any player, having collected the required amount of Merits, can fly for 1 hour on Pegasus or the Cylon Base Ship, but it is better to do this surrounded by other ships of his faction, since the Cylon Base ship is equipped only with missiles and is completely defenseless without protection. Pegasus shoots with guns, but also without protection is an easy target. In the current version of the game, the weapons of Pegasus and the Cylon Base Ship are completely identical [9] .

Clan System

Clans in this game are called wings (Wing). The wing has its own chat. Clan interaction is usually done through TeamSpeak .

Creation of things

Crafting is completely absent, things can only be bought in the store, from mobs you can get a set of technical analysis, a lost unknown object (pno). Previously, it was possible to knock out equipment (level 7), at the moment the developers removed this opportunity.

Missions

There are two types of missions in the game - training, which is given by a special NPC on the base ship of Adam (Colonists) or Unit (Cylon), and daily, which are given by characters in the Rest Room. Also, for completing one of the daily missions in the Hangar, you can get a daily package of ammunition. As the level rises, the conditions for fulfilling daily tasks will become more complicated, but also to a certain limit the reward for them will increase [10] .

The list of daily tasks:

  • Supply Distribution
  • Intercepting Enemy Patrols
  • Disabling Weapons Platforms
  • System Patrol
  • Drones Sweep
  • Trophy Collection
  • Titanium / Tilium Mining
  • Asteroid Exploration
  • Interfere with Enemy Operations
  • Complete dynamic missions

Dynamic Missions

There are two types of dynamic missions - Transport in Trouble and Drone Invasion. The first appears very often and in almost all systems - on the system map it is marked with a green circle with an arrow. The second is based on an in-game event that occurred earlier. It is quite rare and can occur in a maximum of two systems at the same time, it is marked with a yellow image of the drone fraction icon.

"Transport in trouble" is a point on the map (not necessarily in the traditional plane), when approaching it at a distance of 2000, a transport appears in it with a damaged engine and a pair of cover fighters. Transport can belong to either of two fractions. The task is either to protect him for 10 minutes (if the transport belongs to a friendly faction) or to destroy it before the deadline (if it is hostile). NPCs will periodically appear around the vehicle during the period, which, accordingly, will try to destroy or protect it. The list of NPCs that may appear depends on the player’s ship and the number of them. This mission can be accomplished both alone and in a group.

With the "drone invasion", it is necessary to destroy the "command connecting ship" in 20 minutes. To protect this ship, drones of unique classes (artillery, support, etc.) will be spawned in huge quantities and very often. This mission is usually carried out in a group of a large number of ships (10-15) of all classes - in a word, as for storming an outpost.

For completing the mission, you can get one of four medals: platinum, gold, silver or bronze, depending on the degree of participation in the mission. The mission reward depends on the medal and contains a small number of qubits, a large one - titanium and tillium and a certain number of letters - a maximum of 60 letters can be obtained, which is equal to the destruction of the outpost and three enemy ships.

Arena

The game provides a special location for PVP battles, in which players can call the enemy from both the opposing faction and their own. The battle takes place until one of the opponents dies, one of the lighthouse players holds it, but no more than 10 minutes, after which the winner is determined by the amount of damage done.

Based on the PVP battles, a rating is formed. The rating leaders are marked with special badges (crown) [11] .

Donat

The game is shareware . You can buy qubits for real money.
